Repent and trust in Jesus! I’m not saying to trust in some pretty picture of how an artist thought He looked, or a movie about Him that makes a lot of mistakes, but in Jesus Himself, as He is, as He is revealed in the Bible!

The Bible gets a lot of bad press. It’s an easy thing to mock, to talk about “Bible thumpers” and other things like that. But truly, He came to die for us, to reconcile us to His Father. We needed Him to do this for us, for we all have sinned, deserve to die, and have no way to make it right with God – no way to repay Him.

But Jesus accomplished what He came to do, and one day He will return. If you mock the idea of His return, because it is so long since He walked the earth, and because foolish or wicked people keep prophesying falsely about this, you need to remember what He said about it, and believe it:

Matthew 24:44

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Here is what the Old Testament – The Jewish Tanakh – says about His death on our behalf:

.

Isaiah 53

King James Version

53 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Here is what the Christian New Testament says about it:

.

1 Corinthians 15

King James Version

15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

(written by the apostle Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit)
