SLIMJIM continues to analyze Rachel Held Evans’s popular but ungodly book. Thank you, Pastor Jim!

The Domain for Truth

This is part 2 of our critique of Rachel Held Evans’ book titled Inspired.   For Part 1 click here.  Lord willing part 2 and 3 of our series will look at chapter 1 of the book which is on “Origin Stories.”

On page 9 Rachel Held Evans stated the following concerning the Bible’s origin story in the book of Genesis:

Origin stories are rarely straightforward history.  Over the years, they morph into a colorful amalgam of truth and myth, nostalgia and cautionary tale, the shades of their significance brought out by the particular light of a particular moment.

Contrary to what many of us are told, Israel’s origin stories weren’t designed to answer scientific, twenty-first-century questions about the beginning of the universe or the biological evolution of human beings, but rather were meant to answer then-pressing, ancient questions about the nature of God and God’s relationship to creation…

RC Sproul Has Entered into Eternity

Thank you, Pastor Jim of The Domain for Truth, for this post! Reader, please see the link within this post that takes you to many articles on Dr. Sproul’s ministry!

The Domain for Truth

Today Christian theologian and teacher RC Sproul went home to be with the Lord around 3 PM Eastern Standard Time.  Over at Ligoner Ministry they have these details:

Dr. R.C. Sproul went home to be with the Lord this afternoon around 3 p.m. surrounded by his wife, Vesta, and family in his hospital room in Altamonte Springs, Fla. He was 78. Quote of the day – SLIMJIM

This quote comes from one of three posts in a series called On Pharisees: Collection of Short Posts on Pharisees beyond the Cliche. I really enjoyed thinking about this issue, especially as I was criticized recently for being legalistic. Maybe all Christians experience this criticism at some time. May the Lord help our critics to be wrong!

“The Pharisees are known for not having grace.  The Sadducees are known for not embracing truth. But in actually the Pharisees and Sadducees are bickering cousins, for they are two different forms of unbelief.  Turn to Jesus as revealed in the Bible for the truth and for grace.”

In opposing Pharisees, do not become a Sadducee

Spurgeon2

In Charles Spurgeon’s Lectures to My Students the famous Victorian Era preacher he has a chapter on “Earnestness: Its Marring and Maintenance.”  I appreciated how Spurgeon talked about how the preacher could have his zeal or earnestness marred through various predicaments.  Among them is the lack of studying.

I’ll let Spurgeon speak for himself as he said it better than I could:
