Revelation 11:7-14
NASB
7 When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them and kill them. 8 And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which mystically is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. 9 Those from the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not permit their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb. 10 And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and celebrate; and they will send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.
11 But after the three and a half days, the breath of life from God came into them, and they stood on their feet; and great fear fell upon those who were watching them. 12 And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” Then they went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies watched them. 13 And in that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.
14 The second woe is past; behold, the third woe is coming quickly.
thoughts
Some Christians, including Dr. Hendriksen, believe that the Two Witnesses portray the Church in this present Gospel Age between the First and Second Coming of the Lord: its witness (ministerial and missionary), proclamation and judgements, and suffering. Others believe that they are individuals who will appear at the End of the Age. May the Lord give us light and peace about these important truths!

Thank you. I believe they are two men but will keep an open mind.:)

Perhaps both, sis? A picture of history and an ultimate fulfillment?

Maria, where have you been. Am I correct that you have not posted for some time? I hope things are well with you. But to your post. You have the book, so you know what I think. But for those who don’t know my thinking, just in case they might care. I too believe along with Bonnie, them to be two men. This may be one of only a few things I agree with the Dispensationalists about, but I agree with them that one will be Elijah, but my thinking is contrary to most with the second. I believe him to be the Apostle John, who is writing this. I believe this because I take what is understandable in the Revelation literally. Thus john is told:
Revelation 10:4 And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. (KJV)
And then later he is told just before the two witnesses are revealed:
Revelation 10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings. (KJV)
The two witnesses are men who possess a power which supports their prophesying. And John again must prophecy before nations. The Revelation was not John’s prophecy, it was Jesus Revelation or prophecy through him.
So for what it’s worth, there you have my view.

Good to see you back posting Maria. But to your post. You have the book, so you know what I think. But for those who don’t know my thinking, just in case they care. I too believe them to be two men. This may be one of only a few things I agree with the Dispensationalists about, but I do agree with them that one will be Elijah, (I had expressed my reasons for that in your last post. I’m not sure I understood your point when you questioned my thinking in that post. Maybe we should revisit that there. But back to the two witnesses. My thinking is contrary to most concerning the second of the two; although I’m not alone with it. But I believe him to be the Apostle John, who is writing this. I believe this because I take what is understandable in the Revelation literally. Thus when John is told:
Revelation 10:4 And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. (KJV)
I believe that he has never recorded those words. Why would he be told this if these words were to be a part of the Revelation. And then later he is told just before the two witnesses are revealed:
Revelation 10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings. (KJV)
John never prophesied before many Nations in his day. The two witnesses if they are to appear in our time will accomplish this easily with modern technology. They are to be men who possess a power which supports their prophesying. And John again must prophecy before nations. None of The Revelation was John’s prophecy, it was Jesus Revelation or prophecy through him.

The pictures are so fascinating, I wonder why they were not able to finish the manuscripts. Thank you for this post, dear sister!

Yes, they are fascinating – I’m glad you like them, Lauren. The manuscript was produced before and during the reign of Edward I of England (1272-1307). Before his accession he joined the crusades and perhaps the manuscript was set aside for a time then, it’s suggested. I couldn’t find a solid answer to your question. Good one! Why was it left unfinished?

I bet you are right, I’m sure financially the focus shifted during that time. When atheists tell me they know for sure the Earth is billions of years old I always think about how little we even know from just a few hundred years ago.

That’s true about finances! What I read said that Edward and his wife’s crusade was heavily financed by the King of France. About the limits of human knowledge, we all need humility – and making declaration about billions of years is foolish.
