“You and I cannot be useful if we want to be sweet as honey in the mouths of men. God will never bless us if we wish to please men, that they may think well of us. Are you willing to tell them what will break your own heart in the telling and break theirs in the hearing? If not, you are not fit to serve the Lord. You must be willing to go and speak for God, though you will be rejected.”~ Charles Spurgeon 1834-1892
Sherry quoted this in a comment on one of her blogs, The X Mass H8ters Blog. Are you falling short in speaking the truth? So am I. Just remember, brethren, that while we want to be loving and gracious with others, that a rose has its thorns and a honeybee a sting.
But it is a challenge

yes, it is! We must grow up into it, so to speak. It is growing and learning and praying for wisdom and courage.

Beverly, we live in Bowling Green, Ohio. That’s Northwest Ohio, about 20 plus miles south of Toledo. Where are you, dear?

Agreed on it being sometimes hard. I read this quote and feel like a hypocrite yet I have times where I am so bold to speak up because of my love for the brethren.

Sherry, it is sometimes hard. The Lord has strengthened you in this area of the Christian’s warfare.

Just as Jesus and God Himself always tells us what we need to hear. We are responsible only for being obedient, not for the actions or responses of others.

Kathy, this is wisdom. It reminds me of the Lord’s instructions to the prophet Jeremiah.

This is a good antidote to the whole “share the gospel and when necessary, use words” nonsense. I’m going to be holding onto this quote.

Interesting post!
No matter how kindly and gently I think I have written my words about the need of Jesus alone for one’s salvation, I often get someone or other taking offense.
It can be so hard to get our intent received in the manner in which it is dealt. But maybe that is not the fault of the messenger, but rather the hearer.

Sister, it is the message that causes offense, though sometimes we messengers can be offensive. As you know we must just love the Lord and obey Him to speak and speak graciously. Thanks, Steeny Lou, for bringing your thoughts to us here!
