READ! EXCELLENT REVIEW!
About two years after coming out of catholicism (ALL GLORY AND HONOR TO THE LORD! ) I was attending a MEGA church (another testimony 🙂 ) at the time this book came out. The “pastor” there was endorsing it. I for some reason 😉 was not interested. A couple of years later I started reading why this book was so wrong. It is kind of “scary” that a fictional book can be “worshipped” and people think they are being brought to the TRUE GOD THROUGH THE TRUE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON! in a fictional story…
This question always pops in my head when people flock to these “stories”:
IS GOD’S WORD NOT ENOUGH? DO THE GOSPELS NOT SAY ENOUGH?
Thanks for sharing, Sis!

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Elizabeth! What I found is that even a Christian who had walked with the Lord for years, through a severe trial, accepted The Shack because it was fiction that had made her think. Its lies come in under the radar, received as just a story, is the concern. So glad that you know better! I haven’t read it, am convicted of protecting my faith, my mind.
I really enjoyed your comment!

Thanks, Maria. I have read about pitfalls of The Shack previously although I have not read it myself and don’t intend to. Some say just stick with the Bible but I have found that books and study aids from solid evangelical authors can be a real blessing. But we must be discerning. The Shack seems to be another one of those ecumenical, wide-is-the-way books that the TBN audience loves. If it’s selling well at the local Christian bookstore (or getting a lot of “likes” at WordPress) it’s probably more rooted in the world than in the Word.

Tom, hi! I agree that we must be discerning but not set aside outside reading altogether. We can edify one another by different kinds of writing – even fiction, consider Pilgrim’s Progress, for instance, an old solid war-horse. Amen, we just need to be discerning. I’ve listened to William P. Young speak and his beliefs aren’t good – actually, heretical. I want to post a video by an Irishman – a Presbyterian – about The Shack and Young.

Thanks, Maria. Yes, I would be interested in learning more about the “highly praised” The Shack. Speaking of good books, I was just telling someone how a book on Old Testament typology from a solid source can increase understanding and appreciation of the OT tremendously.

I will post the video shortly.
About the book on typology, it sounds really helpful. Isn’t this how the Lord Jesus preached to His disciples on the road to Emmaus?
Luke 24
25 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” 27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

Yes! I was a young believer when I bought the book on typology. I think I had read through the Bible once by that time. But with each chapter of the typology book I was like, Wow! There’s Jesus! There, there, and there, too. A real eye opener for a young Christian.

That’s wonderful! What is the book?

Sorry, Maria. It was soooo long ago. But I searched “old testament typology” at Amazon and came up with many books. I’ll have to research this a bit because I don’t want a heavy-duty academic book written for seminarians.

Oh, Tom! Yes, I have bought a heavy duty that I’ve failed to read. Perhaps someday…

I am FINALLY learning that if anything makes you question what the Holy Spirit is saying to us in God’s Word -dump it and run!
AMEN! To protecting your faith and mind!!! We need to! ESPECIALLY in this “day’ and these “times”!

Dump it and run – I agree! Some strong Christians have a ministry of exposing error point by point. This isn’t for me. I just send up red flags saying “danger – don’t go this way!”

First thing I noticed about the poster was that a ray of the sun is going directly to the womb area of “Papa’s” body. How was Tammuz conceived? By the lying wonder of a sun’s ray-so said Semiramus, his mother, wife of Nimrod who was murdered just prior to her “miraculous” pregnancy. Look at what such fiction has produced! “Christ Mass” and “Easter!”
If one thinks that no one will take this book seriously as good theology to follow I must warn! There are those who do and one of them was my mother’s hospice counselor who said, “God is so good to us, isn’t SHE?” I said back to her, “Yes, HE is!”
One more note, but I cannot vouch for it: I’ve read that Cabbalist Christians (supposed Messianic Jews but really Jews that hate Jesus) have infiltrated the Church with false teachings, one of which is saying that the Holy Spirit is a woman! They’ve also added into the Christian faith numerology outside of what God has shown in His Word. Easily undiscerning Christians are falling for such heresies!

Sherry, I checked the image on the book cover and noticed what you mean. Sunbursts and sunbeams are everywhere it seems. Sheep are easy prey and can be dragged into the bushes easily and injured badly. That’s why those of us who realize the danger have to sound the alarm clearly.
The things you’ve noticed, such as false teachers slipping into the Church, reminds me of the Letter to the church in Thyatira, exposing “the depths of Satan.” Awful stuff and we only need to know enough to help others.

Reading your comments brought this scripture to mind:
Matthew 24:24
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

I am totally DUMB when it comes to TYPOLOGY?? 😦 What is it?

Elizabeth, to me a type is like a picture of something else. Here is a real and accurate definition and link to more, :0)
“Biblical typology
Typology is a method of biblical interpretation whereby an element found in the Old Testament is seen to prefigure one found in the New Testament. The initial one is called the type and the fulfillment is designated the antitype. Either type or antitype may be a person, thing, or event, but often the type is messianic and frequently related to the idea of salvation…”
