Quote of the day – nightlightblogdotcom

“Apart from the Lord Jesus Christ, we’re not just wayward children, wandering from a loving Father.  We are traitorous rebels, fighting against our King and trying to dethrone Him…

“Today’s concept of God altogether misses the point. The writer describes Him as a consuming fire. We don’t like that idea. We want a malleable God, a God who needs us, not a God who is stern and just. We see this in the Cross. When the Lord Jesus “became sin for us,” it wasn’t just a display of “love,” it was a display of unmitigated justice. If you want to know what God thinks of sin and sinners, look at the Cross. While it’s true that His death paid for sin, it took His death to do that. I can’t even begin to put into words what I’d like to write about this.”

Hebrews 12:25-29, Escape

  1. Proof just how depraved the human heart is and in need of redemption. Yet humans resist, rebel and even deny God’s very existence. We hear more of this type of deception daily as the end approaches.

    “9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
    10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” Jeremiah 17

    • Scarlett, yes, we hear more about man’s rebellion every day, the horrors that proceed from unregenerate hearts. When I become afraid of all we are seeing, I remember this,

      Psalm 46
      To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth.

      1 God is our refuge and strength,
      a very present help in trouble.
      2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed,
      and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
      3 though the waters thereof roar and be troubled,
      though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
      4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God,
      the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
      5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved:
      God shall help her, and that right early.
      6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved:
      he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
      7 The Lord of hosts is with us;
      the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
      8 Come, behold the works of the Lord,
      what desolations he hath made in the earth.
      9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth;
      he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder;
      he burneth the chariot in the fire.
      10 Be still, and know that I am God:
      I will be exalted among the heathen,
      I will be exalted in the earth.
      11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
      the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
